We hung around at the Blades' for a few hours chatting and sorting out our spare day. We opted to go back to L.A. and have a night out on the Strip.

We were given a lift back to the airport where we picked up our monster Jeep Liberty, a big white beast of a machine that the rental company wouldn't have been too happy to let us have if they knew what we were going to do with it over the next 3 days.

In the rental office we used to phone to call our friend Karen (a.k.a. DezertNymph), a local actress/model/desert rock afficionado who I'd been chatting to since discovering her Myspace page whilst looking for bands to check out whilst in America. Although she was unable to meet up and spend some time with us as she was away camping, she told us that YawningMan were playing at the Viper Room that night (featuring members of Fatso Jetson, Kyuss, and Queens of the Stone Age) so that was our evening planned right there.

We parked up at the Comfort Friendly Inn and got into our room we booked the previous day, the room was nice enough with a big shower, two HUGE double beds and a big TV. The staff were also very helpful. If you want somewhere (relatively) cheap to stay on or near the Strip then this would be a good bet.

We headed out about 10pm to the Viper Room n were fully blown away by YawningMan, and also by how few people were there to watch such a great band. We chatted with the band after and bought some merch, thinking all the bands had finished we headed off to try and catch the Cro-Mags who were playing further up the road. They'd just finished but who should we bump into, walking down the road? It was none other than Nick Oliveri, original bassist from Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age. We got a photo, chatted and when we told him we'd just seen YawningMan, he freaked out and ran off looking for the drummer who he hadn't seen in years.

We went to a few other famous bars such as Whiskey A Go-Go and Rainbow Bar but being a Tuesday night it was pretty dead so we decided to go back to the hotel and get some kip in preparation for day 1 of 3 of the desert leg of the trip.
