After a walk round town and buying a cellphone so we could contact the various people we were coming to see on the trip, we went to the sea front, visited Pier 39 (yuck!), and the massive food hall near the ferry. We also got a trip to Alcatraz and did the whole audio tour thing which was awesome, although a bit grim when the guard shut me in the isolation cells so I could see what it was like for inmates in 'solitary'.

After getting back from the Alcatraz tour we caught the SF-Sausalito ferry to meet the lovely Aliss, who I'd met at a party in Spain the year before. She showed us around Sausalito town and the Gate 6 houseboat community and introduced us to her various family members before whisking us off up to the top of Mt. Tamalpais to watch the sun set over the mist rolling in off the Pacific. Beautiful.

We rolled back to SF with Aliss who gave us a quick tour of some spots in SF including a drive down Lombard St, the iconic short but winding road down a steep hill, the church from Dirty Harry, the lighthouse, and of course the Hashbury Heights/Haight Ashbury part of town, where we got to have a few drinks and chat to a couple of locals before she dropped us off back at the Motel 6 in Tenderloin.
