We arrived in Mexico City at about half past midnight Irish time so we were well and truly wrecked. We then had the pleasure of 2 and half hours of Mexica Immagration, Customs etc.....we filled in about 8 forms with the same info on them all. And they weren´t in the mood for the poor Irish boys who´d just travelled for the last 15 hours and wanted to have a laugh!
Once we got through, the bags were waiting for us...another worry off our minds! We knew we had to get a taxi, but had heard stories about kidnappings etc, so we were quite nervous to say the least. We queued up at the Official Taxi rank in the airport and I had to start using my Spanish for the 1st time!! I told them the Hotel we were going to and paid the 160 mexican dollars...bear in mind there´s about 16$Mex to every 1 euro, so it wasn´t too bad.
We sheepishly walked towards the taxi, not knowing if we would be getting kidnapped or what, and got our assigned driver. At first he was very quiet, but then he opened up. His name was Raoul and he gave us a good bit of info about the city. He wanted to know about Ireland and if we were Catholics! He also said he had a big collection of different currency notes from round the world. We knew this was probably a line he gave everyone but we figured we weren´t gonna be the 1st to refuse so I offered him a 5 euro note.
Arriving safely at the the Hotel Corinto, we were just about fit for our beds, but decided on a quick drink of the local brew before bed. Two of the tasiest & coldest glasses of Corona were swiftly left at our table....to which Eoin decided to shout "Jaysus, it´s like Mothers Milk" to everyone in the bar.
After a quick bite to eat it was off to bed on the 1st day of the big adventure. The next day was to be the beginning of our adventures properly!
