There is always a preconception in my mind about any place that I am going or even just a thought of how it is.  I mean, I knew there was going to be sand and partying and I do realise there was the tsunami that devastated a lot of what was Phi Phi and the rest, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by some of the islands.  I visited the below and enjoyed every minute of them.

Koh Tao (Turtle Island)
Koh Tao is a very nice place, I did my advanced diving course in a shop managed by a middle aged long haired German, I knew he was from the start as he was explaining to us the options with great organisation. On the dives I saw a porcupine fish, blue spotted rays, a whale shark (I WISH - although it was the time to see them) and a really cool and a ship wreck with 2 canons either side.  It was sunk about 9 months ago and now there are quite a few fish there.  It was given to the Thai army from the septic tanks after the 2nd world war......why, i don't know........but anyway about 2 years ago they had no use for it and it is too old so they gave it to the islands - only one bad thing is that they sank it in a place where the visibility is not good most of the time.

Koh Pangan (Pangan Island)
went to Haad Rin and then to Haad Yuan.  It has Eden at the end of a very rickety old walk way where there is a lot of drinking, partying and the like. Koh Pangan is surprisingly one of the cleaner islands which I was not expecting due to the fact that there are moon parties on there.
I love this Island not for the partying or the serene beach but I could walk over the mountain, through jungle to Haad Rin from Haad Yuan then swim around back to HY via the rocks when it was calm.  This was nice because I have not had a lot of exercise since....ooh let's say....LAST YEAR and my belly is full of fried eggs.

Koh Phi Phi (Toilet Island?)
Very cool place, lots of tourists and partying but no traffic, no tuk tuk, suits, lady boy, food, boat, book, taxi, massage or tour operators trying to sell, they were there but not annoying me.  The only service that was being pushed was scuba diving so it really felt like an island.  For some reason I got caught up chilling on this island as it was so easy, after losing my shoes on the first night I did not need to buy any until arriving at my next Island.  There is not that much to do on Phi Phi and it becomes a day to day thing going to the bar for a few and maybe a walk on the beach.  I did make it on a boat ride one day with an Irishman, Gerry and a few others.  We were taken to Leo DiCaprio's beach, Maya Bay and a few other hot spots.  (By the way I am a Leo....hence the title and for you all not to forget it -BIRTHDAY IN JULY) There is also Long Beach which I had a little walk to one afternoon and is basically full of Baywatch moments, a foreign woman run past me with the lungs of a recordbreaking freediver and the song just popped to mind.

Koh Phuket (???????)
The beaches here are ok but nothing special and it is one of the most developed Islands, it is really big and pretty mental.  There are the usual bars and ping pong tournaments going on with a few extras, in fact any show you want to see, you just have to buy a really expensive beer (and make it last).   There are tons of lights, restaurants, drinking and falang, there are also blocks of a tree where girls beat the hell out of you banging nails into it with a hammer that has a pointed end.  I surely lost a copious amount of baht to this one old girl who would make me think I was getting better then BAM knocked it in one, "oh, don't tell me that is the one that we bet 100 baht on right?"
