Bocas Del Toro, The Mouth of the Bull. A strange name for a strange place. Panama's #1 tourist destination after the city, Bocas offers a chance to unwind in the sun and trek in some jungles all in one convenient location. We hadn't really planned what we intended to do whilst here and decided we would just wing it when we got here. There is plenty to keep you occupied for a few days, despite the amount of time we spent here, I really think we barely managed to scratch the surface.

Day 454: Monday 15th April 2013

Getting our shuttle bus in the morning we found ourselves at one of the more interesting border crossing I have been to. The crossing between Costa Rica and Panama is an old disused railway bridge. Lots of the old railway sleepers are missing and the whole thing feels well past its best. The crossing itself turned out to be even more expensive than our crossing into Nicaragua as we had to by a bus ticket to get back out of the country even though we were never going to use it. Travelling on towards Bocas we had to catch yet a another shuttle bus followed by a short boat ride, which took us to Isla Colon, the main island. We got ourselves set up in a basic but pleasant Hostel, which importantly came equipped with a kitchen. Bocas Itself doesn't seem to have a huge amount going on, it is well set up for tourists although definitely also seems to have a small local population. Its trump card is definitely the bars built out over the water, which we would take full advantage of later. very touristy town with a lot of bars that are built out over the water. We were hoping to meet up with Cora whilst we were here but I didn't expect to bump into her when I did, randomly walking through town on my way to an ATM. She had just got off the boat here and was fully laden with all her bags so I took her back to our hostel to met up with Cori and Tasha. In celebration of our reunion we went for a bit of night out checking out a few of the local bars and clubs. The best were all on the waterfront and had decking stretching out over it providing you with with an opportunity to go swimming that Cora couldn't pass up. She seemed to really be enjoying herself until some Stingrays started swimming passed, at which point she made a point of getting out ASAP.

Day 455: Tuesday 16th April 2013

Waking up for our increasingly regular breakfast of pancakes we had a slow start to the day whilst working out what we wanted to do with ourselves. Deciding to pass up on the chance to go Kayaking, paddle-boarding or the very temping water trampoline we opted instead to have a bit more of a relaxed day and head out to the beach on the small neighbouring island. We spent our time really doing very little enjoying smoothies and playing cards in a restaurant on the beach and then having a little explore and lounging around in the nice warm water. We had been planning on leaving that evening but annoyingly all the buses were booked out so we had to wait another night.
Day 456: Wednesday 17th April 2013

After ensuring we had our bus tickets confirmed for that evening we had a really lazy day milling about our hostel and the town today. I took the opportunity to catch up on some Travmin, my blog was falling along way behind yet again by this point. We played some more cards, cooked some of the girls favourite, and Cori's speciality, Mac 'n' Cheese and then caught our 12 hour night bus at 5pm. We all ended up "drugging up" taking some drowsy gravol in the hopes that it would help us sleep, but to no avail, the bus had cranked their air-con up full blast and we all ended up shivering the whole night through.
