Dear all

Things are going really well over here in Europe at the moment. Let me quickly summarise our stay in the Czech republic.

Louise and I arrived post a rather long bus trip from Vienna to Prague, famous as an affordable and backpacker friendly city. My lonely-planet German guidebook had informed me that German was widely understood there. Lonely Planet, again, scored a homerun for ignorance. No one understood a word I said in any language and Louise and I were reduced to the pittiful 'hand-gesture' language that I hate so much (although a slight improvement over the 'speak-louder' language favoured by some).

Prague was a great city - Louise and I rented a charming little appartment just down river from the famous Charles bridge. We spent the first couple of days just exploring Prague on foot and enjoying the fact it was one of the few European cities to avoid being bombed to rubble in the 2nd World War. Charles bridge, the Castle, the 'astronomical clock' and the small narrow streets that wound their way around the city were all highlights. Prague is also famous for jazz and we spent the first night chilling out in a quiet jazz club.

The 2nd night out was one of the best I can remember. Amazingly, Tommy Emmanuel was playing in Prague that night and Louise and I not only managed to get tickets but managed to wedge ourselves right to the front of the rather tame mosh-pit and watched him from about 5 meters away. I have seen both Michael Jackson and the Rolling Stones live and I honestly preferred watching Tommy - just amazing. I even got to meet him afterwards and he signed my 'Learn Fingerpicking Guitar' book that I brought along on the trip with me. He signed it... 'Get to Work, Tommy Emmanuel'.

Anyway - after 2 days in Prague it was time to finally return to the only other European country I have ever visited - Germany.
