With such a limited time in Santiago it isn't really fair to make a judgement on the city, but if first impressions count then I found it to be unremarkable, the great mountains that can be seen as the backdrop standing over the city are impressive, but the smog or mist so obscures them that they are merely a presence that gives a foreboding feeling and highlights the flat blandness of the place. It should also be said that I was absolutely exhausted after getting no sleep on the 10 hour flight from Auckland that my brief tour of what I did see was edged with the irritated bias that I really just wanted to go to my hotel and sleep and forcing yourself to march around to try and get a feel for somewhere, especially when you are bone tired, is not the best way to endear you to a place
