A little tip if you can get someone to write down where you want to go in Chinese ( the road, area, name of hostel) it is a good idea . We thought we were never going to get there or even find our next hostel, we got dropped at the bus station, but which one and where?!?!?!?! We had been on the night bus for 14 hours it was only supposed to be 9 or 10!! But they seem to drop people off anywhere on request and deliver things to places I am sure are not on route. On top of that we were at a stand still somewhere in the middle of China at 1 in the morning for about 2 hours, we didn't know if it was a traffic jam or if we had broken down but know one else seemed concerned!
The people in the bus station were very helpful doing all they could to try and help us and send us in the right direction!!! we eventually got in a taxi and made it to our hostel. The Loft international Youth Hostel, nice and clean with a great bathroom ( small but perfectly formed! ) The area around the hostel is quite nice but seemed expensive so we bought food from the supermarket which had if you like the chinese version of a salad counter!! ( interesting)
Didn't quite get our bearings in Shenzehn, we looked round the local area and went further into town but there isn't really much to see which is touristy!! We went to see the sea and the mangroves but it rained constantly while we were walking and not just fine rain that gets you wet but very heavy rain that gets you even wetter! Our poor pacamacs couldn't quite cope!!
The staff in the hostel were a little hard work but eventually they did help us and we decided to get to Macau by ferry!! a bit more expensive but less hassle than going all the way by bus!!
