The site is set within a large national park, full of wildlife and jungle and it is very spread out amongst the trees so you walk along small paths to access each part. There were around 5 huge pyramids which were an amazing sight and from the top you get a spectacular view across the jungle with the tops of other temples poking through the canopy. Saw plenty of monkeys and parrots and toucans and the like around too and it was a fantastic visit.
Having had to spend an extra day in the middle of the jungle because daylight savings time made me miss my bus, I very slowly made my way across the border to Guatemala via a series of minibuses and boats and eventually arrived in Flores, a little island in lake Peten-Itza in the north of the country. It was a nice small place and you could go swimming in the lake which was good. Got up very early the next morning to get to the mayan ruin of Tikal when the park opened.
