It was a really nice little colonial town with narrow cobbled streets and set on a beautiful bay and lots of live music and stuff at night so it had a nice little atmosphere. I was only here for one day but spent that going around the bay in a boat to visit the islands and beaches there which was very nice. Even got to see a big school of dolphins swimming close to the boat which was good. Really amazing coastline leading up to Rio with lots of spectacular beaches everywhere and huge forest-clad hills behind, quite a lot like southern Thailand.
So finally I reached the sun and sand that had been in short supply high in the Andes. After a long bus ride and dull 7 hour wait in Sao Paulo bus station (as much of that city as I wanted to see), I reached Paraty, a few hours west of Rio.
