Well Darwin isn't as rainy as i was expecting, only seen one thunder storm in 2days.
Its really warm, hotter than Perth, more humid also, it reminds me of the conditions in Thailand,Malaysia and Singapore. I guess there pretty close.
so i landed in Darwin Thursday after sleeping the whole way. i checked into the melaluca on mitchel hostel. Pretty cool, its even got hammocks ! i missed the hammock so much, even though i havnt tried this one out yet, i plan to spend a few hours in one tomorrow reading my book/s.! Every days like Sunday.
didnt do anything Thursday night, to tired and i had to be up at 0445am for my Sea Fishing Trip.
I was late waking up as i usually am, only 20 mins thought, so no time to shower, just ran downstairs to be picked up, but the lift was a few mins late also so it didnt matter.
We drove about 20 minutes to the West side of Darwin ( we being Alan the Professional Fisherman, and Aurthur from France) put the boat in the water, trying to avoid the crocks, and the midgys.dam things hurt when they bite !
We Sailed about 20 minutes out seeing the most wonderful sunrise i think ive seen yet, heading for a place called the "ROCK" where its good for Baramundi Fish, fish that can reach 140cms in Length! But on our way we hit the bottom, the tide was to low and we got stuck on the sand bed. Not a good thing when the suns about to hit you with all its got. We managed to rock the boat out after about 10 minutes, and headed to Bottleneck, which is a site of two wrecked ships. Within the first 2/3 minutes i was bringing in the first catch of the day, a small snapper, not worth eating though, they were to come later in the day.
We were trying to catch Socttish Mackerel, big buggers they are and really snap the rod when they bite, and then just bolt ! There so fast, i got one on the line but it was so quick it went to the front of the boat so im running up the boat chasing the thing, but maby it wasnt caucght well enough because after only a minute he'd got off the line. "Lil Bugger $, so Changed of plan and go Ledger/Bait fishing, just dropping the line in about 40 metres, just sitting above the wreck, and that worked a dream, i caught several within the first hour, the biggest being a 14 pound Moon fish,it was the size of my stomach! huge thing, i got a piccy done with it hopefully it'll work on this disposable cam i got now. all in all i caught about 20 fish i think, proudest being the 14 pound moon fish and a 40cm Baramundi ! The main aim of the day, we were Trauling of the back of the boat and i got a bite, and he stuck, got it in and was happy enough i'd caught a Baramundi Fish but it just wasnt big enough to eat unfortunatly so i had to throw him back in, not before another photo shoot though. We got back to shore around 4pm, then back to Alan house to clean the boat and have a few cold beers with him and chew the fat over the procedes of the day.
So in the Fridge in the hostel i have about 5kgs of Moon fish fillets enough to last one person 2/3 weeks. Alan had filleted them for both me and Aurthur.
So i think ill try and sell some in the hostel maby get a BBQ going with them !! haha. How this sound, MoonFish BBQ only $2 a fillet, theres about 20 fillets. its a few quid.
So that your lot for now. im leaving Darwin pretty soon and heading for Cairns, dont know my transport method yet though we'll see.
