The People's Education Press publishes textbooks for 60% of the school children in China.  Toady we went to visit them.  There were about 50 US teachers and administrators and about the same number of Chinese educators.  We had a day of presentations, some by Chinese educators and others by some American educators.  It was great to get a perspective of schools from Maryland, New York and China all in the same day.

For lunch we ate at a restaurant called The American Island International Cuisine.  It was a China buffet place which also had food from many areas.  They had the typical Chinese food, but they also had some American food, such as pizza (which I stayed away from, I am really not craving it that much and I might as well eat Chinese food here).  I did try some of the sushi they had which was much better than the Kroger version.  I had to ask for chop sticks as this is the only place so far that provided us only with a fork Speaker at PEP

. Most provide just chop sticks and a few have had both.  I have never eaten sushi with a fork and I was not going to start in China.  My favorite dish had to be the scallops still in the shells.  They were seasoned great and tasted delicious.  They also had bugs like worms.  Lee gave these a try, but I was not that adventurous.

Dinner was interesting.  We had some of the old favorites of peanuts and cucumbers, but we also had sweet and sour fish.  This was interesting by cause it was served on a platter with the head sticking up on one end and the tail sticking up on the other.  It may have looked different, but it tasted good.

After dinner, we took another walk around the city in a slightly different direction.  The most interesting thing we saw was street workers washing the guard rails by hand.  This is something that simply would not happen in the states. And if by some chance we decided to wash them, we would invent a machine.  Labor is just so cheap over here.

Overall it was an interesting day.  Just not a lot to write about as we were given a ton of facts in the presentations.
