Today is a Monday. On Thursday, we are off on a major trip. Not major in terms of distance, nor in terms of duration, but certainly in terms of significance. After five years together, Jane and I are getting married.

In some ways, it won't be much of a change as we have been living together for the whole time we have been a couple. In fact, we were living together (as flatmates) before we became a couple. Accordingly, we have discovered the foibles, traits, features and benefits, pluses and minuses that many couples only learn about after making the official step of marriage. I believe that this is a big advantage for us and one of the main reasons why we will stay together.

Jane is from a small village called Krivan, in central Slovakia. Her family doesn't speak English and would be hesitant to travel to either Canada (where we live) or New Zealand (where I am from). Fortunately, I wanted to get married in Slovakia anyway because it is something different. When we visited last year I really enjoyed myself. I've also always had a thing for castles and we found one that was just perfect for our wedding, in a medium-sized town close to Jane's village.

So, as I write, we are only four days from leaving. Well, two days if Jane would have her way - today doesn't count and neither does Thursday, leaving only Tuesday and Wednesday. Either way, it is coming up. We fly from Toronto to Prague direct, arriving at around 7am on Friday. Maria, our nominal Maid of Honour, is traveling with us. She has family and friends in Prague, so we will spend Friday day with one of her friends, then catch a little puddle-jumper in the evening to an airport fairly close to Jane's family home.
