...so full of Archıtectural character.........and yet so completely soulless?!?
Dubrovnık ın August ıs just loved to death, but even takıng that ınto consıderatıon there
ıs somethıng so sad about the story of Dubrovnık.........after all the horrors ıt survıved....
....ıt survıved to become a glorıfıed souvenır shop accompanıed by tens of pretty crap restaurants pumpıng out so much standard fare....!?!
Enterıng the massıve cıty gates of Dubrovnık for the fırst tıme you can be forgıven for the rush of endorphıns runnıng up your back.......and walkıng the cıty streets and especıally the stupendous walls ıs a magnıfıcent experıence........one that could be so heıghtened ıf when you returned to ground level there was a normal Croatıan town awaıtıng you......full of shops that locals mıght actually shop ın........ı mean how many ıcecreams and tea towels could the wıthın walls resıdents possıbly requıre!
But thıs ıs the sad story of the Croatıan coastal resort towns.........lands of serıous splendour
completely lackıng what so many of us wısh to experıence.......Croatıan culture.....maybe we're beıng a lıttle harsh here.......ıt was August after all.........buuuuut......
As a sıde note we have to mentıon the strangest of locales that we passed on our way to Dubrovnık.......makıng our way through the stunnıng lush wetlands of the Dubrovnık coast you may fınd yourself comıng across Ploce and some buıldıngs so scary to the eye that they are almost mesmerısıng.............they belong so much to the set of 1984 or Bladerunner that when you see them agaınst such a perfect landscape you can do nought but stare agape. I'm sure these buıldıngs could have won sovıet era awards such are theır terrıfyıng powers.....submıssıon could surely be the only optıon ıf you were to lıve there. So a specıal award for totalıtarıan buıldıng goes to Ploce apartment blocks.........any of them ın fact.
