Lisboa is full of character......... not that old, it got rebuilt after it got hammered by a powerful earthquake, followed by a couple of tsunamis, followed by massive fires in 1775.....
today, like San Francisco, it sits in one massive fault that can get angry, very angry, at any given time....... it's a hilly city, has trams, a golden brigde and an island prision from the good old days when fascism rulled the country for over 40 years......
Bairro Alto is always a cool place to hang, Alfama is where the heart and face of Lisbon is and there are always sardines and tuna in every menu.......
around the Rossio Street and Bairro Alto, you get offered hash, cocaine and fados...... in between, a dozen people will try to bum a euro or a cigarrette out of anyone that passes by...... but there are way less junkies around compared to when i lived in Lisbon about 10 years ago......
in Belem, we ate as many pasteis de nata as we could..... gorged ourselves..... they're insanely delicious.... warm..... bought a cake to a Roma woman, she flashed the sweetest smile...... she'd been trying for a while to get anyone to buy her that cake, the one that she wanted......
stumbled upon an amazing Le Corbusier exhibition at the Museu de Arte Comtemporaria......
ate sardines, tuna washed down by cold crispy beer........
