However cliched the poetry of Robert Frost may have become these days the gist of his work often rings true.
Last Monday we wanted to get out of Nha Trang ..............we had tasted the best of their seafood and enjoyed the generally cheaper prices of the place but it was characterless and had that bad feeling of a town only catering only for the farang. We wanted to continue our travels north and our next stop was to be Hoi An. Generally
the easiest way to do this would be the overnight sleeper bus which would take about 12 hrs to do the 440 odd km's.
But then while searching for a place to feed we met Mr.Chau...........
Mr. Kangharoo man come sit down with me......i'll show you no.1 real vietnam......why not............why the fuck not?...............taking Mr.Chau for an over eager tout we humoured him and told him we may be back tomorrow
to discuss an alternative route for our journey to Hoi An...........the next morning we booked a sleeper bus to Hoi An..........but we thought we'd go see Mr.Chau for comedic value alone...................
20 minutes and a few coffees later we had cancelled our bus ticket and were packing our bags and getting ready
for a different route............it would now take 4 days to get to Hoi An..................covering now 1000km through the Central Highlands and then the Ho Chi Minh trail down the mountains onto the plains to Hoi An..............
and this would now be done on the back of some ageing but sound motorbikes............
Certainly the road less travelled................
We couldn't resist............this would be much more fun.....................and it was..............the last 4 days has been one of the great travelling experiences of our lives. Mr Chau and the newly intoduced Mr.Binh turned out to be great company and ace motorcyclists............they were a completely odd couple, one catholic one buddhist, one boisterous the other shy, and on it went ...............complete opposites. We have laughed for days straight and have honed our skills of silent comedy theatre and along the way seen some stunning scenery...........broken down and been looked after by cheeky locals, introduced to new delicacies and well and truly looked after by a couple of great people.
But now we're hungry and need to eat some more of Hoi An's specialty dishes .............so we'll post some more stories of the last few day here soon...............Anyhoo love to all...............JamAngie......................eek
