Where I stayed
Jake signed up for his open water license, which consisted of 3 days. The first day was a video in the morning and then the afternoon him and his buddy were out to the shallows in the ocean to perform the relevant tests (200m swim & floating for 10mins) to prove to the instructors they were fit to obtain the dive license. Afterwards they performed two dives, the first a training dive and the second more of a fun dive.
All dives are held in the beautiful ocean off tayrona national park were there are some great diving spots where the water is a lovely 28 degrees
The second day of license was a morning session, consisting of two dives, the first a training dive and the second training & fun dive.
The third and final day was an afternoon session, consisting of two dives and a theory based test - which he passed!!!
That evening it was decided that he would keep going with the diving and do the advanced open water, which would enable him to dive to 30m and more specialized dives.
This consisted of 2 days, which we ended up splitting over 3 due to wanting a rest. The first day was an afternoon session, with 2 dives - concentrating on the two of the three optional sections, jake picked drift dive (diving in strong currents) and peak performance buoyancy (helps achieve neutral buoyancy).
The 2 day was a night dive (which was the third and final optional section of the course).
The third and final day a morning session, doing the two compulsory sessions, deep dive (diving to 30m) and navigation (diving with a compass). Jake passed all tests and is now an advanced open water diver! Yah!
During this time kat has been enjoying hanging out with fellow travellers at the beach. It's been nice to spend over a week in the one spot, especially one as laid back and nice as taganga.
Tomorrow we are off into the national park, tayrona for a few nights - more beautiful beaches!!
