We went with Wacky Rollers http://www.wackyrollers.com/ - Tubing. I highly recommend this excursion and it is not necessary to go through the ship. We had 8 people with 4 guides to assist us. It was private and we received helmets and life preservers. I heard that the ship's tour did not and was very crowded so that many people got hurt because the guides could not watch them through out. We has such a great time. The tour ended with rum punch, bottled water, and fresh fruit.
