After Athens we made our way up north through the country stopping in Delphi, Meteora and than to Thesseloniki which is the city that has relegated Melbourne back to having the 3rd largest Greek population
Meteora blew us away. We didn't even really know where we were going and arrived late at night. In the morning we looked outside and we were surrounded by gigantic rocks. Meteora made us feel like we were out of the Flinstones. I'm not joking, if there was ever a 'bedrock' in this world, than Meteora would have to be it. There are six monasteries in Meteora and they are perched on the peaks of some of the rocks. It's definitely a place we love.
All in all, Greece was nice but expensive, like any Western European countries I suppose. So after breaking the budget, we decided to give Eastern Europe a crack where the prices were sure to be lower and the experience a little different.
