We had all been asured that there would only be a total of 8 people in the jeep, the crew of 2 staff and 6 gringos were.. The driver and frequant mechanic, the cook who spent most of her time having to sit on the glovebox, a nice U.K. couple, a Couple of crazy Italians, a couple of Koreans girls that bearly said boo and myself. Now in typical Bolivian style thats actualy nine people and a bit of a squeeze. More people = more money, even if they have to be strapped to the roof rack. After driving around in cirlcs about town we finally headed out. First stop the train graveyard that I had already ventured too by myself. It didn't feel so dodgy with more people here this time.
After that we drove to the begging of the salt flats. We stopped to visit a local salt processing site and even managed to sample some of the divine salt, it tasted.. like,um salt.
After that we drove a few minutes to muck around and get our first real good look at the salt flats and take a few photos. After this we sped straight out into the great open expanse of the flats only stopping when our jeep decide to die. Stuck in the middle of literally nothing with the sun beating down on us we all piled out and took some more snap shots while the driver popped the hood. Half and hour later and we were off again. It had been an ordeal but we had escaped with our lives. The next stop after this was the ' Hotel de Sal, Playa Blanca' a hotel made entirly out of salt. We snack in to have a peek before being asked to buy something or leave. So we left.
