Entry 1 of 1 | show all | print this entry

This was the last bastion of Europe that I had been hanging on for in London despite really being ready to have a break from London. Three of the guys from work had all ready booked and another mate Lyall was also going to be there for a couple of days.
I pretty much stayed up drinking all night after work with the staff from work and hopped into the mini cab to the Airport.
I caught the 7am flight to Bilbao earlier than the guys from work and arrived a couple of hours later. Trying to get some cash from the machine my card was promptly swallowed by the machine (I had forgotten that earlier that morning in my drunken state I had changed my pin number at the bank machine to make it easier to remember). Not a problem as I had some pounds on me, except that the bank at the airport was closed. I ended up having to catch a taxi into Bilbao and having the taxi wait at the bank while I got some dosh. With that sorted I went on to find the bus to Pamps.
Once in Pamps I wandered around the bus station trying to work out where the campsite was and where to catch a bus from. Luckily I bumped into another former staff member who pointed me in the right direction. The campground was ages away, it took 40 minutes to get there.
Once there I found my tent. I had booked my Accommodation through Back Packers and ended up sharing a tent with some random Aussie guy, who was pretty cool.
With my gear all stored away I went off to find Lyall, who had been there already for two days. He wasn't hard to find, pissed out of his head by the pool with a purple mowhawk. Immediately I was joining him on the sangria. About an hour later Lyall managed to spill a pint of sangria all over me. I handed him my wallet and glasses and dived into the pool to wash my jeans. After that I got thrown out of the pool area. I went and got changed into something else only to return to find my glasses that I had given Lyall snapped in half. Robbo!!!
The rest of the guys arrived from London later that night and we all partied pretty hard. Lyall went to bed a bit earlier as he had been there for a couple of days already. Katie, Scott, Kristen and myself partied on pretty late.
In-fact I think I partied a little too hard as when I woke up the next day it was 9am and the campsite was absolutely abandoned. Everyone had gone in for the opening festival that had kicked off at 8am. There wasn't a single person about. Bugger!! I quickly got my glad rags on and asked the staff about a bus. None. I ended up having to hitch into central Pamps and was picked up by the manager of the campground who had noticed my wristband. Once in I quickly brought the standard uniform of white T and red bandanna all that was missing was then sangria stains. After I fixed that I walked through the main square where everyone was going nuts. After about half and hour I heard some scream Robbo!!!! Next thing two maniacs wearing sparkling wigs and baseball bats came running through the crowd. Lyall and Scotty very smashed. We partied all day in town running around like idiots before heading back to the campsite at night. There was a massive party in swing there with a DJ cranking out the tunes and we ended up going nuts again. We then had about an hours sleep before getting up to catch the bus in for the first Bull run.
In town the bull route was all fenced off. I held back talking to the girls a bit before realising that they weren't running so sped of to find the other two ahead. I ended up getting lost and couldn't find my way back onto the bull route. At 8am the rockets went up above the city and the bulls were running past with me nowhere in sight. Later that morning I tried to find the bus stop back to the campground but couldn't and ended up sleeping on a bark bench. I ended up getting sunburnt on my face.
By luck at about 6pm I bumped into Scott again and then we bumped into Lyall who had to fly out back to work. After a few goodbyes we headed back to the campground to party all night again.
The next day I woke up with one of my eyes completely closed over. I had gotten sunburnt on one of my eyelids yesterday while sleeping in the park. I blame Lyall for this for smashing my sunglasses. Anyway my eye was completely swollen over and it looked like I had been punched in the eye. I kept having to field questions about my red eye all day and it was pretty embarrassing. We went back into town that day before we had another massive party at the campsite.
On the last day we were all suffering pretty hard, but still managed to party until late in the afternoon. That day Scott was feeling pretty bad which I found pretty amusing until my hangover hit me. The others went back into town while I tried to sleep of my sickness. The next morning everyone was leaving and I managed to get onto the bus back to Bilbao. I stayed in Bilbao for an extra night before flying back to London and work for another week before I finished.
