We managed to crack onto Murchison after we had previously stopped at a dairy in the sticks for some water when the car wouldn't start agian and we were left talking to a rather scary toothless local, straight out of yocal town. Then after another stop at a campsite that had us running for our lives from those pesky sandflies we arrived at our campsite with a stunning secluded tent spot under some massive trees keeping the heat at bay and also a awimming spot on the river with smooth preturbing rocks to sunbath off and dive into the warmish water from. There was also a pretty funky cafe right on the water aptly called the 'Rock Snot Cafe' after the intrusive algie that has taken over the river. 'Rock Snot' or Didymo is a real problem now in NZ but I have been impressed with the conservation effort and the message seems to be getting across that eveyone is has to be resposible about wahing their clothing and equipment to reduce the spread into other enviroments.
That night we pollished off a bottle of cheap plonk I had brought from supermarket, an aussie Sav Blanc. C'mmon I'm in the heart of some of the best Sav Blanc terrain in the world and I'm drinking a dodgy auusie import to save a few bucks - the shame. After the wine It was back onto a few Tequilas that I have managed to whittle down to almost empty. Unfortunately It was the last time I would be drinking the 'Pepe Lopez' I had grown to love as I accidentally left it behind the next day. Arriving in Picton the next night and acctually looking foward to a few 'Pepe's and 'Raro' I had stripped the car down looking it. Alas it was gone.
