Unfortunately Bucharest seemed to be one of the most uninspiring European Capitals that I have seen. Its one of those places that only seems to get negative feedback on the backpacker trail. But that said it still managed to grow on me after a couple of days.
We didn't really get off to the best of starts after coming off our overnight train from Bulgaria and arriving only to be taken for a ride by the taxi driver, the classic tale of foreigners arriving in a new country tired and not really being used to the local currency. We got duped into paying an extra few pounds than we should have.
The hostal we stayed in was pretty nice and comfortable and there was a steady stream of other travellers.
We visited the open-air village museum of traditional Romanian architecture (Nuzeul Satului) which houses over 300 traditional styled buildings that you can climb through and explore. Another attraction not far from the museum was the 'Arcul de Triumpf' a pretty much smaller carbon copy of the Paris version. We also visited the Cismigiu Gardens, and the gigantic box shaped Parliament Palace. Most of our other time was spent running form stray dogs.
