Athens unfortunately tended to show the uglier side of Greece. From the uninspiring train ride through the wastelands of the industrial zone to the deep, dark and dirty streets of Athens itself.
Athens saving grace was of course the mighty Acropolis and the surrounding ancient Greece sights such as Ancient Agora. The buildings and monuments of the Acropolis were pretty awe-inspiring, especially the Parthenon, Belile Gate, Proplaia, Erectheion and Temple of Athenea Nike. The bustling streets of Plaka and the flea markets were also enjoyable. There were also some nice views of the Athens above the streets from the Acropolis.
