The town of Carcassonne is probably one of the most stunning medieval castled towns around. It is a maze of winding cobbled streets which are very easy to get lost in, while the outside walls strike up a stunning if not imposing fortified defence system with 52 turrets climbing into the sky around the village, which look amazing when lit up at night. We took a tour here to gain the most of the rich history that has flown through the region. We also visit the Musee De Inquisition, which exhibited various torture instruments and devices used from the 13th century.

We had another stunning campsite sitting with a perfect view of the castle. The campsite had apple trees and a swimming pool. Unfortunatley there was a 'no shorts rule' for the pool which meant you had to wear speedos, they even had speedos on loan! Needless to say I didn't venture into the pool despite the warm weather. Crazy French! The castle was like I said stunning once lit up under the blue skys at sundown. This castle has been used in numerous films such as Robin Hood and its pretty easy to see why. The surrounding hills are also beautiful with many vineyards scattered about.
