After hoping on the train and missing my stop and ending up here in Venice we all looked for a place to stay, but unfortunately everything was fully booked. The three of us ended up sleeping outside of the train station along with another 20 or so backpackers. It wasn't too bad we had a couple of wines by the canal and the weather was pretty warm.
The next day we booked into Hostel Archie and then we spent the day wandering around Venice, which is simply another world. The place just turns out to be one massive Labyrinth of alleyways, dead-ends, canals and stairways. I was pretty impressed when by midday we had actually made it to the Piazzetta. There the city stopped and a world of water sprawled onwards to other islands. It was really lush.
During the rest of the day we headed up to the top end of the island before getting some much needed decent sleep after only getting a few last night. Later we meet up with a couple of English girls we had meet last night and an American and Canadian chick. We ended up having dinner and then drinking a few bottles of red by the side of the Grand Canal.

The next day we meet the girls again and had breakfast before heading off to the Palazzo Ducale, the official residence of the Doges, built in the 9th century and also checked out the Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs). After this we went to the famous Piazza San Marco and the Basilica Di San Marco, which was originally built to hold the body of St Mark.

We then caught a water taxi over to another island and went to the beach that was packed. After a nice swim, we lied in the sun until 6pm rolled around. Then we headed to San Giorgio Island and watched the sun set of Venice.
The two English boys left last night and this morning I meet the two English girls for a cappuccino, the real deal! After that we had one last ride on the Grand Canal and then wandered slowly back before the girls caught their train and I caught my on to Rome.

Loved your Venice photos. I'll have to figure out how to post them like this it's great! We didn't see any sun in Venice and spent some of our time walking on the platforms they put up when it floods as it does so well in the months of November and May!
