Also there are just plenty of good quality bars. I visited plenty of awesome bars in the main entertainment district and there are plenty I don't remember quite as well. One weekend I stayed down there in a hostel with a mate and we had a blast arriving back at the hostel via a supermarket trolley (we've all done it).
Freo also offers a little bit more history than Perth itself does and this is evident facades of the local buildings and the roundhouse that sits at the head of Fremantle, a past Gaol dating back to 1800's.
I didn't manage to get down Fremantle as much as I probably should have as each time I went down there I kept discovering more and more to the place that I like. The thing that really stands out for me in Freo is the awesome pubs and brewery's. I've worked in and around alcohol for the last 10 years and it still excites me to find those special spots. Fremantle's speciality is definatly is boutique styled beers, the ones that pop with flavour wether it be chocolatey/coffee flavoured dark beers or zesty refreshing wheat beers. The crown jewel is probably the Little Creature Brewery right smack bang on the harbour even if beers not your thing, then at least go for the super funky setting. The actual brewery doubles as a bohemian styled drinking warehouse and eatery. Its very cool.
