After I had come back from Airlie Beach the time every traveller dreads, had finally come. I was completley broke, even having maxed out my credit card. I started to look for work but the steady stream of jobs in the gold coast bullitien coencadentially seemed to dry up when I needed them most. Eventually I went for quite an exciting job at a new Lounge Bar that was opening in Broadbeach. The first interview came as a bit of a shock. The bar was being built to belong to Sofitel the 5 star hotel and there were literally a couple of hundred people at the interview that resembled more of a casting call than anything. I went away from that interview feeling like I had a reasonable interview but had probalbly gone in a litlle underdressed. To my surprise I was called back for a second interview and then a thrid before eventually being offered a postion, one of only 12 people out of over two hundred. The bar itself was still a few weeks away, which meant I had a couple of weeks living like a pauper on rice and bread.
Two weeks before opening we started training in luxury standards and our procedures and also took on heaps of beer, wine, spirit and champagne tastings. I learnt so much during this time plus I alsways went home with a litlle glow on. We had a massive V.I.P. opening and I even had to endure pre-event make up beofre opening to the general public the next day.

So after about two months of working at Room81, I got bored. I wasn't really enjoying the straight edge atmosphere that accompanied the hotel and also felt I had undersold myself a bit, so I decided that I wouldn't be coming back from my trip to my mates b-day party in Perth. It also meant I was making a comitment to continue travelling for a couple more years. I'll sort myself out when I'm 30! (Yeah right)
