Just one night in Derry - off on an early bus to Galway (pronounced gawl-way for anyone pronounciatingly challenged like me). Long ride - the bus didn't stop everywhere, just every second cow pasture. Amazing really how many people get on and off in what appears to me to be the middle of nowhere. Stopped once for 8 minutes though so we could go to the bathroom (they don't have them on the buses).
The further we got from Northern Ireland into Ireland the less nasty fencing and metal gates over businesses we saw. The scenery in County Donegal (dawn-ee-gawl) was stunning - absolutely beautiful.
Galway is a nice relatively small city. It's a university town so lots of young people. Our hostel here was amazing - free internet (couldn't get my wifi to work though so had to use their terminals), free breakfast, and our room was actually across the street in an old house. The house only had 2 other rooms, with only 1 occupied by some guy, so it was like we had the place to ourselves. Full kitchen so made our own dinner. Drawback was that it was isolated with no way to call for help, but it all worked out. Didn't like that the hostel tried to charge my credit card in Canadian funds - a scam the travel books told us to watch out for cause it ends up costing us more in the end, but she fixed it when I complained.
Tired from the bus ride so just looked around town and in the shops. Hard time finding a grocery store but eventually found a Marks and Spencer.
Bought our tickets for the ferry tomorrow from the hostel so automatically got the student rate - cool - saved 5 euros.
