September 21

8:15 am

Waiting at Heathrow. Up early to get to the airport to meet Laura. Her flight is an hour late but decided to leave anyway since I was up. Not too much difficulty getting to the airport. Once I got here I found that her flight had been delayed again, and then again. What a drag. Bought some Maltesers to console myself - they taste so much better than ours. We have already vowed to bring home several bags with us.

Later - Her plane finally landed. Beyond happy to see her again. I'm sure people who saw us at the airport probably thought it had been much longer than 2 weeks since we'd seen each other.

Back into London on the Underground. I don't know why everybody doesn't just use the tube instead of the expensive alternatives - it's fast, cheap, and easy.

Dropped Laura's bag at the b & b, and off to Harrod's. This place is amazing. It is a beautiful place. It has to be one of the finest examples of excess in the world - but one which I thoroughly enjoyed. The food hall was very tempting. As we were leaving there was this voice singing something beautiful - I think it was opera - when we realized it wasn't a recording but a woman was singing from one of the little balconies overlooking the egyptian escalators.

As we left Harrod's I spotted a Patisserie Valerie across the road so we were able to cross off another of the must do things on Laura's list - we got some very nice french pastries without having to deal with the pollution of Paris.

Off to the Borough Market to look around. It was very pleasant there. People didn't seem to be rushing around as much. Got supplies for a picnic dinner back in the room.

Notice a theme? The day Laura arrives we spend quite a bit of time at places where shopping is the primary activity...interesting.

Laura of course was jet lagged so we called it a day early.
