Off on the train to Cambridge this morning. I still don't really like the English trains. The one I was on first this morning was the gner that runs from Edinburgh to London I believe - the route of the Flying Scotsman for those that know or care. I don't really know or care, but a lot of people seem to. Anyway, got excited because I saw on the window that it had wifi onboard. It did but was incredibly expensive. I think it was almost 3 pounds for 30 minutes. Needless to say, didn't wifi.
Changed trains in Peterborough to get to Cambridge - train was about 25 minutes late. Got to see only the backs of some Peterborough warehouses - pretty much the same as warehouses everywhere.
Found my b & b with no problems
Out to explore Cambridge. The college's are amazing. The buildings and grounds look nothing like where I went to university. There are quite a few colleges that actually make up Cambridge University, and most of them charge to get past the gates. Being my cheap self, there was no way I was paying 2.50 to go in. So I walked a long way to get around to the backs and unknowingly found the back way in. The college was even more impressive from inside.
As I was wondering around for free where I really shouldn't have been, I wondered if the cctv cameras had noticed what I did. Do they arrest lost tourists for trespassing?
And speaking of these cameras, they are absolutely everywhere. I find if I stop almost anywhere and look for them, I can spot one. And it's not just Cambridge, they've been everywhere I have. It's a double edged sword really. I feel a bit safer knowing that someone is watching, but it's also quite odd, knowing that someone is watching.
Thrilled to have wifi I e-mailed and skyped (voip - voice and instant messaging over the internet for those who are even more technically challenged than me) the rest of my evening away. I have to rest my feet anyway.

The Backs in Cambridge
. It is quite close to the train station which means that I don't have to drag my bag too far. Nice place - I've got a huge room. It has a double and a twin bed - I'm sleeping in a big bed tonight.Out to explore Cambridge. The college's are amazing. The buildings and grounds look nothing like where I went to university. If you were back in Canada it would be out of your way to have to go to from York to Peterborough to get a train to Cambridge!
