Japan, even back then, was a consumer electronics lover's dream. I remember buying the latest Walkman while I was there - which was tiny compared to those sold in the States (just slightly larger than a cassette case). I also remember bulking up on literature of upcoming products to share with my friends back home.

The highlight of the trip, however, was visiting Tokyo Disneyland. What can I say, I was young and still into that at the time. I recall that is was a more "modern" looking version of Disneyland as well as a much cleaner and less crowded one (probably because it was also fairly new - it had just been build in April, 1983).

Tokyo left me with great impression in that it was one of the first major cosmopolitan cities that I had visited at the time. And as I had grown up mostly in the suburbs, everything I saw during this trip was novel and exciting and overwhelming to my senses. I remember, for example, riding in a subway (the Toyko Metro) for the first time - I'm sure that I had done so several times before when I was a toddler in New York, but etched in my memory are the sights and sounds of this particular trip as being the first time.
