We arrived in Salzburg on the 1st of August and spent a few days poking around this wonderful city which is known for three things; Mozart, The Sound of Music and Cathedrals.

Our first day was spent trying to find our way around the city. I'm not sure if we were having a bad day or the direction signs in the city continuously point tourists in the wrong direction. We spent the better part of the morning looking for the tourist office. We never did find this but the search led us all over the city and as a result we found a great open market selling every kind of fruit, vegatable, flower, meat and bread. Great crowds and fun merchants. We also came across and climbed up to the Festung Huhensalzburg which is a castle like structure built in the 700's as a home for the Arch Bishop and his people. We wandered through St Peters Abbey and Fisher Von Erlach's Collegiate Church with its amazing domed ceiling and intricate stone carvings I am 16 going on 17.....

. We enjoyed listening to the buskers all of whom are clearly classically trained musicians playing, you guessed it, Mozart.

The next day Jacquie went on a half day 'sound of music' tour. She had a great time with a bus load of Maria Von Trapp fans singing the day away. The tour included the true story of the Von Trapp family as well as visits to the many filming sites around Salzburg. The next day it was off to Munchen (Munich) to plan a backpack trip in the Alps.

Chat soon,
