Hotel rooms, conch, and the invasion of the dove
Entry 1 of 1 | show all | print this entry |
We diceded to fly out to Florida a couple of days before our cruise set sail (May 7). Once we got to the hotel on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, we were told they gave away our room... even though we paid for it... They ended up taking us to this other hotel about 2 miles from the beach, which was kind of lame, considering we had all anticipated swimming in the ocean that afternoon.
Anyway, the next night we were able to stay at our original hotel, but due to the issues night before we were upgraded to a beach front room. After swimming for a couple of hours I was starving, so my family and I walked into a shopping area about 15 minutes away. We went to the restaurant called Aruba and it was SO good! I tried conch for the first time in conch fritters and conch soup. I didn't think I would like it that much, but sure enough, I did.
Later that night we went to dinner at this crappy restaurant inside the hotel. When we left it was raining and windy and we realized we didn't shut the balcony door. As soon as we got back to the room, we found this white dove just hanging out! It was clearly trying to find shelter from the storm, so we just made it go outside and sit under one of the chairs on our balcony. I woke up at about 4AM and it was still there... but after going back to sleep and waking up a few hours later our feathered friend had decided to leave!
Next stop: The cruise ship!!!
