The time was approaching for us to consider parting company with Lucy. We had left ourselves a reasonable amount of time to spend in Christchurch at the Backpackers Car Market, so we were quite confident that we'd be able to sell her before we left. Still, we were starting to wonder how long it might take, so we had a decision to make. Would we go and explore the Christchuch Peninsula, or should we just go into Christchurch and start the selling process?

In the end, we decided that a half day wouldn't make a lot of difference, so went to see what Akaroa, a small town towards the end of the peninsula was like. It turned out to be fairly mediocre and at the bottom of a very large hill. Hurrah.

We wandered around the town and looked at some of the little shops and streets with their picket fences. We debated camping despite the no camping signs. We left.

Back down the peninsula towards Christchurch is Robinson's Bay, where we found a layby to camp for the night. It was reasonably well populated, so we tucked Lucy in under some trees, made some food and bedded down for the night.

The following morning, we took some photos of Lucy for the poster we had been designing in our heads and bit the bullet. It was time to go and try and sell our faithful old van. First though, there was that big hill to get back over...
