...change planes...

Check in at LAX took an amazingly long time, not helped by the attitude of some of the airport staff. We were in the slightly strange position (as far as airline staff's little brains are concerned) of having boarding passes already, but not having checked our bags. Does not compute, does not compute...
Finally, after having been directed to various queues, we found a member of staff who could understand simple English and was able to check in our bags. We went through security, who were also suffering from a logic loop; they need you to put all your little bottles of fluid in a plastic bag, yet they had run out of plastic bags...so they said we could take them on anyway. It seems contact lens fluid is only considered life threatening when they have a decent supply of poly bags to put it in (which obviously neutralises the threat). It was way too early for this sort of thing.
Eventually, we were allowed airside and sat for a short while before being able to board our flight. This was a relatively short flight from Los Angeles to Dallas, Fort Worth. We arrived with almost an hour to spare before our connecting flight to Mexico City, giving us plenty of time to ride the monorail around the airport to Terminal D, where our flight would be leaving from.
Once at the correct gate, we soon boarded and watched our bags being loaded. Then....nothing happened for a while. This was eventually followed by an announcement to the effect that a passenger had had some sort of emergency so had needed to get back off the plane, and that the delay was caused by them having to find and retrieve his luggage from the bowels of the plane. Who's prepared to bet that he had a generic black suitcase with wheels...?
Eventually, our plane took off 5 minutes before it would have done if we hadn't bothered changing to the earlier flight. Never mind, we were off. Next stop, Mexico.
