Up until now, we had had no cause to use the Toronto subway and bus system, but we approached it with no great concerns - after all, the lady who we need to pay can probably help us, right? No, she was not feeling happy and helpful today, so no, she wasn't going to be nice. Thankfully, we had been given quite good directions and had been told that we needed to get  transfers at the subway in order to change on to the bus service - so we found the machine that gave transfers and did just that. The rest of the journey was pretty simple and despite a missing road sign, we eventually made our way to Jen's place, where we would be spending the evening.

We sat and chatted with Jen for a while, then the three of us headed out to Kensington market, where we bough various things for our train picnic as we would be on the train to Winnipeg for about 34 hours. Weighed down with bread, cheese, sausage, fruit, olives, mixed seeds and fruit juice, we went for a burrito whilst Jen headed home. The Big Fat Burrito place was nice, Kirsty was impressed that the menu was on a large board spelt out in fridge magnet letters, Jacob was impressed that they had a huge range of hot sauces.

We then went back to Jen's and did laundry and showers before tea. Jen and her boyfriend Mark had invited some friends round for dinner (Jenny and Ryan), and we had a nice time nattering with them.

The following morning, we got up really early, took a streetcar to the subway and a subway to the station, arriving at 8am to ensure we got good seats on our 9am train for Winnipeg...
