Today I saw some of the best and some of the worst, Cambodia has to offer.

In the morning I went to the Cambodia Culture Center which had Grand Statues,

The half man half bird people represent good fortune and a happy family.

Turns out that there are 25 National Holidays that they have fireworks somewhere or everywhere in Cambodia. Today was the Kings Birthday and they had fireworks in Phenom Pehn. I was bummed I missed them . . the next best thing was the haunted house at the CCC. Although it sort of reminded me of the kind of thing the Baptist do where they get you in and then show you gross stuff to mend your ways. And most of the scenes portrade naked people being tortured to death in one violent way or another.

Then I went to the War Museum it was not what I expected. I wanted a better explanation of why America was dropping 40,000 land mines at a time out of the back of planes. Plastic so that metal detectors cannot find them and they never go bad. So it is still not safe to walk off the path as you may blow off your leg. Apparently the dear US government (as well as other governments) would rather injure a person instead of kill them because if you kill a person they get left. I was told it takes 7 people to get one injured man off the field. I don't know about this fact . . .but it makes sense. There is a sad number of people including many children getting around with one leg

Then I went to a Cock Fight . . Not nearly as gruesome as it could have been . .
It was quite a little social event for the (mostly) men and some children.
The gambling was spirited . . The fights were short and lots of screeming for the bird
they were betting on.

At the cock fight  had an interesting way of peeling just the very outside of the skin off an orange leaving a real thick tough outside, cutting a little plug out of the top, putting some chili
or something like it in there and selling them for 1000 Reil (25 cents) The skin was soft enough to squeeze out the juice and tough not to split open . . .interesting when you have
no cooler but want to serve something . . it was hotter than sin and sure hit the spot.

On the way home I saw a motorcycles with 2 live pigs tied to the back.

Since they don't have much refrigeration they do not slaughter animals until just before
they are going to be cut up for imediate sale or sacrificed (they still do that here apparently).
I have seen pigs tied up like this every day and finally got a photo. And yesterday I saw a motorcylce with about 50 live chickens tied to it . . .amaizing.

I have also seen 1 live water buffalo all Trussed up on its back on the back of a motorcycle.

And coming down the street the Green Village Palace is on there was a funeral procession.
Somebody died next door last week, and they have a 7 day long, 24 hour a day ceremony with the family with music amplified through the whole neighborhood during day and loud enough you can hear it from the street at night.

I think I may be coming down with a cold. I definitely have the sniffles. Tomorrow I am going to relax a bit and buy another suitcase for all the stuff I have collected : ) Spend more time in the pool instead of racing all over the country.

Shell has got himself a job interview on Wednesday so instead of leaving for Badaubaum tomorrow . . I guess we have to hang around here until at least Wednesday. I am not sure what I am going to do about the rest of the trip if he gets the job and has to start right away.
