The "Hop on Hop off Bus in Porto toured the "Best of" areas of Porto. Ifyou hopped on and road the circuit without getting off it took about 2:30. I did that Wednesday afternoon but today Larry went with me and we got off at 4 different locations.

The first place we got off was a fort, designed by Miguel I'Ecole, was built in 1661. It was occupied by the Absolutists in 1832 and badly damaged by the Liberalis' batteries. It was abandoned for may years before it became the headquarters of the Oporto Naval Brigade's 1st Company. It was handed over to the Northern Commandos Association in1975.

I have a huge number of photos from the day in Porto, these are just a few. Leave a comment if you would like to see more.

Take note that the barge in the river is one of three Fireworks Barges.

If you paid attention to the haze in any of the above photos . . . what you are seeing is the smoke coming off the cookers producing "Chestnuts Roasting on an open fire" . . which are available all over the city, night and day. Very popular, hard on breathing.

I always wonder if the places you travel to are really as beautiful as they look in your photos, or if it's your great photograph that makes them look so beautiful. I suspect your exceptional photography could make the City Dump look like a "must see" travel destination.

The tile church is really beautiful.

If you want to see the best photos I ever took at a city dump . . .

Go to To read the entry at: (you will need to cut and past this link)

Taken in Dutch Harbor Alaska, where the city dump is where the Eagles hang out when they are not repairing the fishing nets down in front of the Grand Aleutian Hotel where the Eagles clean the nets while the workers repair them.

Take time to look at the rest of the blog while you are there . . it is a really gorgeous place.
