Anchorage, Alaska has not had a cold spell where the high temperature for the day has not reached 0 in over a decade . . . .  so what do you do with the largest fountain in town on a cold winters night ??

You pump boiling water through it . . .and shine lights on it!
Creating a forever changing winter ice sculpture!

Lousac Library in Anchorage, Alaska has just such a fountain . . .

This is an ice fountain in Anchorage Alaska, at the Lousac Public Library . . .

In the summer it is a mild mannered fountain . . .pumping water . . . pretty . . .but snooze.

In the winter . . WHEN it is working .. . (I have seen it maybe a 100 times and this is the first time it was actually working)they pump boiling water through it. Recycling the water that drips off .. . and illuminate it at night. . .

A winter fantasy. . . that is ever changing . . as long as the pumps work in the freezing weather!
