It was a truly beautiful day at Mount Vernon. The fall colors were truly beautiful.

The "Illustrations" are my photos . . .I really did not steal a pack of
postcards . . .I was playing in photoshop, hope you don't mind.

The Visitor Center was a grand as all of the other museum and exhibitions in Washington. New and crisp and high tech with multimedia presentations, movies and hands on displays. Although we were not allowed to take pictures in the mansion or museum.

Mount Vernon was unique in that it really was George Washington's working estate.

The one thing that stood out was the number of chairs. Each room had plenty but then the wide hall was lined with them. This house was obviously used for meetings where they pulled extra chairs into the large living room to seat extra people.

The estate has been kept in the manor that George Washington would have been proud of had you come for a Sunday visit. The animals and gardens immaculate and a fresh coat of paint which I guess he was particular about.

I really wish I knew what kind of bush this is with the purple berries.
It is my understanding it is common in the Washington DC area.

The smoke house was large, (actually all of the outbuildings were about the same size),
And could hold enough meat for the entire estate while it smoked and cured.

George had a full time man (slave) whose job was to paint . . . from one end to the other and then start over. Thus the paint celler.
