The Eklutna graveyard is Russian orthodox. A huge percentage of Alaska Natives are Russian Orthodox due to being converted during Russian colonization of Alaska. In fact, being Russian orthodox is a very important part of "Native Identity" for many Alaska Natives because it predates American colonization of Alaska and has come to be seen by many Alaska Natives as the "native religion." This is true for many Dena'ina Athabaskans (the residents of Eklutna, and the Anchorage area before Western colonization and through the present.)

They do not put names on the old Spirit Houses but they paint the houses according to family groups and the ridge of the house deliniated the ocupation.
