What I did
Worlds Largest Cabage
But what about the ALASKA State Fair?
Pioneer Peak overlooking the Alaska State Fair
An entire garden of
topiaries of seals floating
in the waves of blue flowers
A small onion domed booth selling Christian Icons and posters
explaining the history of the Orthodox Church of America
which began with the arrival of eight Russian Orthodox Monks
at Kodiak Island Alaska, then part of Russian America in 1794.
The monks established a mission in Alaska,
which was made a diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church
a few years after the United States purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867.
While a lot of state and county fairs
have giant pumpkins larger than 900 lbs -
Alaska boasts the worlds largest cabbage.
This year the world record
was beaten by Scott Robb
who grew this 138.25 lb cabbage.
The cabbage looks even larger
when I stand next to it.
And the average fair has
Goats and pigs and cows, etc.
The Alaska State Fair had
an assortment of Reindeer
The entertainment this year included acrobats
And Lumber Jack Shows and all the other
Standard Fair entertainment.
And the yearly Lumberjack Show
An interesting use for empty wine bottles fenced in an array of recycled garden art
Fireworks barely won the battle
blasting through the rain and smoke
But the audience that staid were treated
to an impressive fireworks show.
