Alaska Bear Adventures
What I did
Homer Alaska with Alaska Bear Adventures.
The waiver we signed made the kind of waver
you have to sign at fireworks conventions seem tame.
It included having to initial beside statements that
included we were informed that - - -
"Bears occasionally eat people" and
"You can die when a small plane crashes".
May not have been worded quite like that
. . . but that was the definite point.
The lady in the light grey coat (above) stated . . . .
"If you don't have to sign a waiver, it is not worth doing!" . . .
We left Homer, crossed the inlet
and flew through the bowl of
the Mt Iliamna volcano.
The spruce trees that were killed
by the spruce bark beetles
were obvious against the
emerald green hillsides.
The planes were equipped with tundra tires
to land on the sandy beaches
I am afraid I slowed down the group
which consisted of Tom our guide and
the other 2 couples which were all
adventure travelers who spent
the entire trip talking about
white water rafting, climbing mountains,
flying and the like.
I was huffing and puffing trying to keep up.
I had to take 3 steps for their 2
so Tom put me second in line (behind him)
so I did not fall behind and become bear bait.
Our Guides Tom and JFF from Alaska Bear Adventures both took excellent photos and posted them at alaskabearadventures.smugmug.com where they should be viewable until Sept 14th.
Below are some of their photos.
