Where I stayed
Our train arrived in Rome at around 7:30pm and we decided to walk to our hostel insted of taking the bus which resulted in us both being soaked in sweat and at some points being a little weary about the shady looking people we passed on the almost abandoned streets we were walking along
. When we arrived at the hostel we found that we did not have a reservation because James did not put in the right dates into the computer when making the reservation on Hostelworld!! He had accidentally made the booking for February 2012 instead of August 2011, not sure how that happens but it did. Needless to say I (Jackie) was not impressed and I also pretty much went into shock as it was now 8pm in Rome and we were pretty far from the main touristy areas where we could find another place to stay. After James spent a little time on the hostel's computer looking for a place to stay (while I pretty much refused to talk to him) we ended up getting very lucky because a group of Australians had booked a four bed dorm but for the first night they were there only two of the four were staying in the dorm and so the other two beds were open and we got to take them, I almost jumped in excitement! Haha. We did however have to find other accomodations for the rest of our stay and ended up choosing a hotel closer to the sights for not much more than we would have paid at the hostel so it ended up alright in the end....good thing for James I guess, haha.
I was still in a bad mood though after James had messed the reservation up and so we just went to the room and watched tv for a bit before going to bed.
We had until 3:30pm before we had to be on the train to Rome so we decided to do our favourite thing in Venice and just wander. This time we took a left after crossing the Rialto bridge instead of a right like the previous days. After some more narrow alleyways and small bridges we found a large walking street where we ended up stopping at a small cafe for lunch. After lunch we continued on until we reached the edge of that side of the city and looked out on a huge body of water with other islands and massive buldings built scattered around throughout it. We then headed back towards our hotel to collect our things and wait until it was time to make our way to the station.
