When we got on the bus and asked about getting off at our stop the driver said no so we were a little nervous but the lady at the info desk had also said it was walkable it just wasn`t a real short walk, oh boy. The bus ride itself was ok, but we definately prefer the roomier trains we`ve now gotten used to. When we got to one of the stops near the lakes we asked which way we needed to walk to get to our stop and to our pleasant surprise the driver said to get back on the bus and he would stop where we needed, yay!!
We then made our way to our hostel to drop our bags quick. We didn`t have as much trouble as in Zagreb but again this place didn`t have a sign with the hostels name on it! There were only apartment numbers on each place but we had a little map and had seen a picture on the listing so after asking once we found the right place....what`s with Croatia and their lack of signs?

We couldn`t put our stuff in the room but the place was small and felt safe so we just kept our money and passports and such on us and then headed to the lakes. The walk to the entrance of the lakes was a bit of a hike as we were just in a nearby village with a path through the trees to the entrance. If you want to stay close to the entrance you have to book a room in one of the big hotels or campsites there, it's not actually a town.

We made it there after about a twenty to twenty five minute walk and grabbed a bite to eat before entering. First we took a tram up the side of the hill along the lake. From there we crossed the lake over platforms they've built all throughout the park and then just followed the path back down and along the lakes. The water is completely crystal clear and has a very blueish green hue to it which is absolutely beautiful. There is also small and some larger waterfalls all throughout the park as the water flows from the higher lakes to the lower lakes in the park. It's an absolutely beautiful place and great if you just want to wander around for a day. We're glad we just stopped for a day though as that is all it takes to see it.

When you get back down the first path there is a spot that you can take a ferry across the larger lake to the other paths to the largest waterfall. We decided to also do this but in the end were kind of annoyed that we didn't just walk around to the other side of the lake. The line up for the ferry was massive and completely chaotic and uncontrolled. There was a staircase to the dock where you were suppose to wait for the ferry and then a second staircase to the side of the dock where you could wait for a smaller ferry back to where we caught the first tram from. A lot of people though decided that their time was more important than the rest of ours and instead of waiting in line on the first set of stairs they pushed passed the huge line and took the second stairs down to the dock and crossed back over the dock and snuck back into the mass of people but in front of the huge line of people waiting on the first set of stairs! So frustrating!!...stupid ignorant people.

Once we finally got across We walked all through the paths to the large waterfall and everything was just as beautiful as the first section of the park. We actually made the comment that it was just like the small walk we took in New Zealand by the creek with the crystal clear water, just on a much bigger scale.

After we finished the last section we took the tram back to the entrance we had come from and then started our walk back. When we reached the village we picked up some supplies for supper and then went back to the hostel and ate. That night I (Jackie) just read my book in bed because I was wiped after walking around all day and James visited with some other people that were staying there as well.
