We made our way to a cheese market in Alkmaar (30min north of Amsterdam) to see teams race to see who could weigh and carry the fastest. We got there just as the market was starting and we managed to squeeze a spot into the the crowd to get a poor view (go early to get a good spot). There had to be two tons of cheese or more in the square and four teams were racing to get them weighed and then loaded into carts and then back into the trucks that brought them there.
When we were leaving the market we stopped and bought some cheese from a stand that was very cheap and very very delicious! Since there were four triangles in the bag we thought maybe we could bring some back to Hans and Diane's house and maybe send some home.
After the cheese market we jumped back onto the train and headed for the windmills at Koog an de Zaan (15min train ride). We walked through the town and found the windmills along the river. We went to check out a cheese farm they had there but it really just ended up beig a big cheese store with a lady that gave some explanation about cheese and it's uses and so on for a couple minutes every so often so we didn't stay there for too long.
The skies were really grey when we got into town and rain was hovering over us the whole time, and damnit we forgot our umbrellas. We were hungry so we went for went for lunch and just as we got our food it started raining on us! There were big umbrellas around the tables so we just squeezed to one corner of our table under the umbrella. After that we made our way along the river and checked out the windmills a bit more. BY this time we were wiped and made our way back to the hotel so we could pack to leave for Berlin the next day.
