We left Tutukaka and drove to Paihia and spent the entire day sitting in a small room writing our blog phoning home and doing laundry; it was a very boring but relaxing day.
After leaving Paihia we drove to Cape Reinga which is at the very north part of the island. We walked to the lighthouse that is there and took some pictures before we headed to a DOC campsite where we sat and soaked up some sun on the beach before it went down.
In the morning we headed to the Giant Sand Dunes and were a little upset when we got there to discover the person who we were told could rent us body boards wasn't there. So we just walked to the top of the dunes to take some pictures anyway. The way down would have been funner with boards but we did save $30 by not renting them......at $15 per board for about an hour and no sharing allowed it's quite the rip-off so we weren't too upset after we saw the price! (You could just buy your own at a Wharehouse or something before going to the Northland for about $20; had we only known!)
Afterward we headed back south towards Auckland. We made one more stop at Rawawa Beach (may have spelt that wrong) for lunch and because there were suppose to be something called salt spits there? We weren't sure what that was suppose to be and it looked like just another normal beach with white sand, and a dead fish washed up on shore, lol.
We thought we'd stay a little closer to Auckland so that there wouldn't be as much driving to do later so we pretty much drove all afternoon and then stayed at a campsite about an hour north of the city.
This was our last full day with our van so we decided to stay at a holiday park in Auckland so that it would be easier to do stuff in the morning. after checking in we headed to a library to use their internet for a bit and then went to book a hostel the rest of our days in Auckland for after we were done with the van. We then went to a mall to try and find Jackie a new airport bag for her backpack considering we lost hers when she got sick in Bali; no luck though and we returned to the campsite. After we'd gotten back to the campsite we started cleaning and emptying our van of everything and putting it back in our backpacks; time for us to lug those things all around again. :(
For supper we had what was left of our food which was two cups of noodle soup and some spagehti sauce, real gourmet meal! Haha.
