Then we had about a three hour border cross to get through which consisted mainly of us waiting in a huge line outside in the blistering heat with our big packs and the only saving grace was a tarp over our heads to keep the sun from beating down directly on us. Just horrible.
After the long wait we were herdered to a small minibus and they packed it full...with us being the unlucky two that had to sit in the two half sized seats in the back by the bags (all the way back to Bangkok!!).
When we arrived at Bangkok we still had a 4 or 5 hour wait for our night bus which we got through by playing a very long couple games of rummy, thank god for cards!!
The night bus south was a LOT worse than the one from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. There were more seats which meant less leg room and we ended up between two seats of guys, the ones in front of us jamming their seats all the way down and into our legs (and if they didn't think they had it all the way down they would ram it up and back down into our legs again), and the ones behind us putting their knees up into the seats and pushing on the backs so a) we couldn't quite lay our seats back and b) we could feel every small movement of there legs digging into our backs.
Just great fun!!!
