So we've decided we're not big fans of Bangkok. We took a night bus back which was not too bad but as soon as we got off the bus we hated the feeling of not knowing where in the city we were and being unfamiliar with everything again.
We got a cab and were dropped off at our hotel to check in but we had to just lock our bags in a storage room because it was 7:00am and there wouldn't be a room for us till noon. So then we headed out on foot again to explore the area. The heat and smell in Bangkok is horrible and we were not enjoying it right from the beginning of the day. We already smelled from being on the bus all night and now found ourselves having to walk around in the heat and stench of the big city for five hours before we could get into our room to shower.
One of the first things we came across was McDonald's and as tempting as an egg mcmuffin was we shook the urge and ended up finding a little market around the corner where we had some awesome Thai noodle and rice dishes....breakfast is a little different here!
Then we checked out Kho Saan Road and were stopped by many cab drivers and tuk tuks. (Aaron we didn't even have to stand at the end of the road we would be talking to one guy and others would come up in the middle of our conversation and try to make a deal with us....even though we told them all several times we were just going to walk around today on foot.)
We finally just went back to a cheap internet cafe we had seen close to our hotel and spent the next 3 hours uploading pics and doing our blog.....then we went to check in.
The place had seemed nice when we got there but when we were taken to our room we were unpleasantly surprised! There was an attachment to the actual hotel in the very back that was kind of like a dungeon and when we got in our room there was no TV (not a huge deal), the toilet and shower were shared and outside of the room, and worst of all the walls were simply boards and we could see into the house beside us through the little cracks (also obviously we could here very clearly the loud Thai ladies next door). This was NOT what we had thought we were signed up for. We went to the front desk and told them it was too loud and asked if we could see another room; the lady picked up a key and took us back to the dungeon attachment but this time led us up a very steep, tiny set of stairs. The room was basically the same except there was no one on either side of us up there and it was MUCH quieter and so we took it.
We showered in the shared shower just outside the door and headed out again. This time we went and checked out a massive standing Buddha, which was pretty wicked(about 60ft tall). Then we were way overheating again and went in search of slurpies!!! We seriously looked in about six 7-elevens and none of them had slurpies!!! (Practically all the ones in Chiang Mai had them so we were confused). Then we found a very small shopping mall and it had air conditioning so we wandered to the top of it and found a little coffee corner and ordered ice coffee and iced tea and ice cream! That cooled us down...that and just sitting in the air conditioning for a while!
When we left literally two doors down we saw a 7-Eleven and went in out of curiosity and low and behold slurpies!!! We got a big one and started to wander again. We went down by the river and walked around, stumbling upon a small park where a group sang a Christmas carol in Thai!!! We were super excited to here it! There was also a group of guys practicing jumps and spins and karate kicks which was cool to watch for a bit.
Then we headed back to the room to shower again...it was that hot!
We headed out to find some food for supper and stumbled upon a road lined with stalls and bars, which we are certain wasn't Kho Saan because it was too close to our hotel but it sure seemed like it. We got some great food from a small stall and walked around enjoying our dishes and watching everything around us. We ended our walk of course finding a 7-Eleven with slurpies to suck back on our way back to the hotel.
We got back pretty early so we read for a while before we tried to go to sleep. In that time we were eaten alive by whatever tiny bug was in there...another complaint for the dungeon! Then we shut the lights out for what would be a completely restless night rolling around and the horrible heat and scratching our legs with the feeling that we were being bitten.
The guy we booked with will be getting a strongly worded e-mail from us because we are suppose to be staying there for two nights after we get back from Cambodia!

Aaron on

Too bad on the hotel bed bugs and Jackie getting sick. Isnt it funny how everyone tries to rip you off. SOunds like you guys need to hit the beach. If you guys are bored in Bangkok theres a huge mall in Bangkok called the MBK shopping centre near Patpong. You can get anything here for next to nothing. A little more high end than the Chatuchak market (i butchered the spelling)
Keep up the posts guys. Its awesome to hear how you guys are doing

Funny you should say so, cz we are now on Kho Tao! haha. Yeah our plan actually was to hang out in MBK for a bit on our return to Bangkok for two days but once we get the chance to update you will find out our plans changed and we didn't end up staying in Bangkok again.
